It's still a good ship, but currently lacking the mojo that made it the top dog it used to be. At least the Vanguard is still tough to kill, and it has crossfield drive so quantum travel is less painful - and you can get better quad guns for it too. Combined with shield hole (now fixed), the Sabre pilots was dropping like flies - and for a while even a player in an Arrow has a reasonable chance of beating the Sabre. With the whole overheating mechanics its default weapons - the Panthers - is also no longer as OP as it used to be. The Sabre, it seems, got the raw end of the deal due to reduced maneuverability in the new flight model as well as reduced shield strength. Unfortunately, all of the Big Three have been so severely nerfed and sanitized that they're a shadow of their former self. ![]() I think the poor guy may have ended up changing his handle! That how sacred the Sabre was. At one point some noob in a Sabre got killed by an Aurora outside cryastro and the whole fight was uploaded on Youtube. When somebody manages to kill a Sabre using any ship other than the Big Three, the smack talk would be legendary. Trailing someone in a Sabre armed with four overclocked panthers was often enough to evoke a nervous response from the victim - unless of course that guy was in a Vanguard or Superhornet then typically a long drawn dogfight would ensue - followed by a ton of school yard taunting in the chat. That meant that you often get instant street cred when flying this ship. It also has three shields which, when overclocked, make it a tough cookie to kill. ![]() Of course, you still need to learn to hide that pancake profile from attackers during combat but this can be easily achieved through circle strafing and various decoupled manouvers. It's slim profile made it difficult to get hit. The Sabre was the fastest and most maneuverable of the Big Three ships. These fighters dominated AC and were the ones racking up the most kills in the PU (in the good ol days before prison was a thing). While the UEE Navy has not yet accepted the Sabre bid, Aegis has opted to make a run of production prototypes available to licensed civilian operators. It used to belong to the Big Three back in 20 Vanguard, Super hornet and Sabre.
